- Book 61/80 of my reading challenge
4/5 stars
*I was sent an ARC by Harper Collins YA in conjunction with working on an event with them- that does not influence my opinion of this book in any way!*
Ten Thousand Skies Above You is the second instalment in the Firebird series by Claudia Gray. The first, A Thousand Pieces of You, was one of my favourite books that I’ve read this year. It was absolutely original and I loved the concept of inter-dimensional travel as well as the extent of the multiverse (especially the historical Russian universe!) I addressed a few concerns I had with the first book in a video. Mainly, just some of the actions the main character, Marguerite, took.
I’m glad they actually were resolved in this second instalment!
Synopsis (spoilers for A Thousand Pieces of You within):
Marguerite has returned to her universe with her Paul ad everything is back to normal, with Marguerite applying to art colleges and Paul continuing with his theory about destiny in the multiverse. Theo, however, has become sick because of the toxic Night Thief. Being the perfect traveller, Marguerite has caught the attention of Wyatt Conley who finds a way to ensure Marguerite will work for him by “splintering” Paul into four different dimensions forcing Marguerite into them to retrieve the pieces of Paul’s soul.
Some characters return as do some integral plot points from the first book. We also start to question, is Paul’s theory about destiny in the multiverse correct or still unproven…
Overall, I loved this book but it just wasn’t quite what ATPOY was to me. I enjoyed the new dimensions as well as the development of some of the plot points. I will definitely be continuing on with the series and you’ll realise why if you’ve read any of Claudia Gray’s books (ugh cliffhangers!!)
I absolutely love the cover ❤ Thanks for the great review, and for incorporating the first book in the installment as well. I think I will read the first one before I read this one. By the way, where did you get those amazing pendants??? They're so pretty!!!!!
